Cold Chain Air Freight

Temperature-controlled air cargo for pharmaceuticals, perishables & biologicals

Cold Chain Air Freight

Protecting Your Cargo, from Dispatch to Delivery

Cold Chain Air Freight is our specialist service for goods that must remain within a defined temperature range throughout their entire air journey. From a +2°C to +8°C pharmaceutical shipment to a -20°C frozen food movement, we maintain the unbroken cold chain, in transit, at the airport, and during final delivery.

Fort & Freight is an IATA CEIV Pharma-aligned forwarder. We operate to GDP (Good Distribution Practice) guidelines and work exclusively with airlines and ground handlers who have validated temperature-controlled facilities at key hub airports worldwide.

Pharmaceuticals & Biologics

Vaccines, antibodies, plasma, insulin, and clinical trial materials requiring strict +2°C to +8°C or CRT control with GDP documentation.

Perishable Food & Produce

Fresh fruit, vegetables, cut flowers, seafood, meat, and dairy products with strict shelf-life requirements and phytosanitary compliance.

Cell, Gene & Diagnostic Samples

Clinical diagnostic samples, CAR-T cell therapies, and biological specimens requiring ultra-cold transport in validated dry shippers or LN2 containers.

Fine Wines & Beverages

Temperature-sensitive wines, spirits, and beverages requiring controlled ambient transit to prevent spoilage or cork damage.

Live Plants & Seeds

Horticultural products, orchids, cuttings, and seeds requiring specific humidity and temperature conditions alongside phytosanitary certification.

Chemicals & Reagents

Laboratory reagents, diagnostic kits, and certain industrial chemicals where temperature deviation affects product viability or causes dangerous reactions.

Our Cold Chain Process

Every link in the chain is controlled, monitored, and documented

1

Pack & Pre-condition

Cargo is packed in validated temperature-control packaging, pre-conditioned before loading to match the required range.

2

Cool Room Acceptance

Cargo moves directly into the airline's validated temperature-controlled cool room at the hub airport, not left in a general cargo shed.

3

Monitor in Flight

Calibrated data loggers travel with the shipment. Our team monitors real-time alerts from sensor reports at transit hubs.

4

Deliver & Document

Final delivery with a complete temperature report, logger data, chain of custody, and deviation record (if any), delivered to the consignee.

Compliance & Standards

We operate to the highest international cold chain regulations

IATA CEIV Pharma-Aligned

We follow IATA's Centre of Excellence for Independent Validators standards for pharmaceutical air transport.

EU & WHO GDP Compliant

Good Distribution Practice guidelines are embedded across our cold chain handling SOPs and partner requirements.

Validated Packaging & Lanes

Only validated packaging solutions and airport cool rooms with documented temperature qualifications are used.

Cold Chain Air, FAQs

Our team is alerted immediately by the data logger network. We escalate to the airline and transit handler, document the excursion with timestamps and logger data, and work with your quality team to assess product impact. A full deviation report is provided with the shipment records.
Yes. We handle all required export regulatory documentation, CITES permits where applicable, and coordinate with receiving country regulatory requirements. We work with international health organisations, NGOs, and private pharmaceutical importers and exporters globally.
Both options are available. We can supply validated passive packaging solutions (qualified cool boxes, PCM gel packs, dry ice) or work with packaging provided by the shipper, provided it meets airline and regulatory requirements. We also offer active electric ULDs on selected routes.
Within 24 hours of delivery, we send a complete shipment dossier including the data logger report (PDF and raw data), chain of custody record, AWB scan, and any deviation notifications. This documentation is stored in our system for audit purposes for a minimum of 5 years.
